PASSION FOR SPEED

Motorcycles
“My passion for speed started when I was only six years old, when my father bought me my first motocross bike, and I began to race until the age of 11 in the Stevenage Schoolboy Scramble Club. But my love for four wheels soon diverted me away from motocross.”

Karts
“Karting is the way to go if you want to make it to the top of motorsport. At the age of 11, I started my racing career with Andy Cox Racing, the official Birel UK team. In my first year I raced in Mini Max club meetings and did a season of Stars of Tomorrow, which is now known as Formula Kart Stars.

“After my first novice season in Mini Max, I moved into JICA with Andy Cox Racing. JICA is the top junior karting class in the world and the competition was extremely tough. I finished 13th in my final year of JICA with ACR, which was a disappointment - we struggled all year with slow engines.

“After four years with ACR I moved to Ricky Flynn Motorsport, which is undoubtedly the most prestigious British team in karting. My move to RFM was an excellent choice, as we finished sixth in the British KF2 championship, with two podiums along the way - my best season to date!”

Cars
“At the end of a very long and tiring 2009, we decided that I should move into cars for the next season as I had grown to a height of 6ft1in (1.86 metres) over the year. This is a massive disadvantage in karting as the karts are so light and their centre of gravity is so low, so another year in karting could have been a waste.

“After testing with Fortec Motorsport several times in Formula Renault I was very pleased with how well I gelled with the team, and it was only natural that I agreed to racing in this year’s Formula Renault UK Championship with the team. I’m looking forward to a great year with the team and to pulling off some great performances.”

After testing with Fortec Motorsport several times in Formula Renault I was very pleased with how well I gelled with the team, and it was only natural that I agreed to racing with them for the 2010 season. I had a fantastic year and feel I have learnt an enormous amount, which helped me to become winner of the Graduate Cup Trophy. Since then I have spent the winter contesting the Formula Renault winter series, in which I achieved 5 front row starts and won 3 out of 6 races, becoming overall winner.

At the start of 2011 in order to gain further on track experience I was fortunate to be able to travel to New Zealand to participate in the Toyota Racing Series, once more enjoying the view from the podium. On my return I was informed I had also been selected for the British Racing Drivers’ Club SuperStars scheme and to become a member of Team UK, a scheme run by the Motor Sports Association. I feel honoured to have been selected and cannot wait to prove myself during 2011 when I will again be joining Fortec Motorsport for my second season in Formula Renault.”
